Donavan (and Becks) Snatch Point for the GalaxyIt wasn’t the nine-goal fun feast these teams produced last year, however, the fans got their monies worth as the Galaxy snatched a point in added time from the Red Bulls. An upper tier crowd (the lower tier and mezzanine were full) enjoyed a fully fit David Beckham spraying passes, corner kicks and free kicks around a buzzing hot and humid Giants Stadium. He even strayed occasionally away from his favored right side of the field.

Groundbreaking Date Announced for Red Bull ParkCan you believe it? The official groundbreaking ceremony for Red Bull Park, a 25,000-seat soccer stadium to be built in Harrison NJ, will take place at 11.30am on Tuesday September 19. Nick Sakiewicz, President of AEG New York, developers and managing partners of the outdoor venue made the announcement yesterday. Completion is expected by the summer of 2008.

10 Days and Interest is Picking UpThat wonderful draw (although the soccer was somewhat ugly) the US obtained with Italy yesterday ensures that World Cup interest will pick up considerably as the week progresses. And whatever happens, the US can be assured that its World Cup campaign will be considered successful, even after that sleepwalk against the Czechs. Great to see a New Jerseyite sitting right next to Bruce Arena during the US games – of course it was assistant coach Glen Myernick. I forgot him when listing all the New Jersey people involved in the World Cup – sorry Glen and great job against Italy!
