The Metrostars will play their third round US Open Cup game against local A-League team, and affiliate, Staten Island Vipers on Tuesday, July 13, at 7pm at Yurcak Field on the campus of Rutgers University in Piscataway NJ. Tickets available on game day only, are $7 for adults and $5 for children. The price sounds just right-espcially the way they are playing right now.
Expect an overflow crowd on the far side of the stands to give this game something the Metrostars will never get at Giants Stadium. Atmosphere.
Get there early. This should be a fun game. Do I hear anyone say Giantkilling?
Metrostars vs Dallas Burn PreviewTonight at Giants Stadium (7pm) the Metrostars take on the Dallas Burn with a team of All Americans! This is the first time (and only the 4th time in MLS history) that the Metrostars have fielded an all American line-up. It is even rumoured that Tab Ramos may be available to play after missing nine straight games through injury.
Last week over 43,000 people turned up for the New England and El Salvador / Columbia doubleheader. The big question is how many will turn up to see just the local boys play? Off hand, I can't think of any big attraction on the Dallas team.
Obviously the talk in the crowd will be about who the new foreigners are going to be and when will they show up. No news as to who they may be but you can bet dollars to donuts that they won't show up until we are well into summer.
An official note. Tomorrow's listed assistant referees and fourth official are all from New Jersey. On the lines will be FIFA assistant referee Greg Barkey and Matt Lawlor while Ricardo Renderos will be the fourth official. The referee is slated to be Paul Tamberino, who comes from Maryland, but the pregame notes list him as coming from the United Arab Emirates. So the referee will be Tamberino or the referee who officiated the Clash vs Rapids game on Thursday night. Identification may be difficult as I know they both have moustaches.
Metrostars vs Miami PreviewTonight at Giants Stadium the Metrostars take on the Miami Fusion and try to snap a three game no goals losing streak at home.The game has added interest as the winner qualifies for the US Open Cup.
Both teams are in the cellar of the Eastern Division with 5 points however the Fusion have scored 8 goals compared to 5 for the Metrostars.Hurtado should be back in the line up for the Metrostars after missing last weeks loss in Washington. Interest will focus on last weeks goalscorer Nanshi Kalonji who comes from Jersey City and played at Ramapo college. Listed as a defender in the media guide Kalonji has spent most of his time playing forward.Look for him to come on as a sub in the second half.
Miami have been in a state of conFusion for their entire existence. This season has seen gates falling quicker than last year, a GM change and the dispatch of Carlos Valderama back to Tampa.
The Metrostars had a shootout win over Miami in the first game of the season in a lively match at Lockhart Stadium. Both teams need a regulation win. The Metrostars need to win and score goals.
